Pan Africa Christian University has joined the rest of the country and the world in observing the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, marking a global movement aimed at raising awareness and advocating for the end of violence against women and girls. During the event, PAC Vice Chancellor professor Dionysious Kiambi expressed deep concern over the rising cases of femicide in Kenya, which have surged in recent months.
Addressing the media, Prof Kiambi strongly condemned femicide, describing it as a “barbaric crime that continues to endanger women’s safety and dignity.” Emphasizing that the increase in femicide is a grave concern for society, highlighting the urgent need for systemic change.
“Femicide is an affront to the sanctity of human life. As a Christian university, we firmly believe that every individual is created in God’s image and deserves dignity, respect, and protection.” He said.
He further expressed PAC University’s unwavering stance on the importance of safeguarding the rights and safety of all individuals, particularly women, and called for collective action to combat this alarming trend, highlighting research from the university’s Psychology faculty, which identifies several complex factors that contribute to femicide, including unchecked aggressive behavior, gender-based prejudice, and cycles of violence.
The university emphasized that tackling these issues requires a multifaceted approach involving early interventions, emotional intelligence development, and the provision of mental health support.
“The roots of femicide lie in deeply ingrained societal issues, and breaking these detrimental patterns demands a comprehensive and swift response. Our Psychology faculty stresses the importance of developing emotional intelligence, offering early guidance on healthy relationships, and providing mental health support to help prevent such tragedies.” Added Prof. Kiambi.
PAC University reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research, fostering open discourse, and taking concrete action to address gender-based violence. The institution also emphasized its role in promoting transformative, value-based education that equips students to become godly Christian leaders and role models who are committed to building a world free from fear and harm.
“We are dedicated to shaping a future where women and girls can live without the threat of violence. By working with like-minded organizations and continuing to offer value-based education, PAC University aims to empower the next generation of leaders who will champion the cause of human dignity and gender equality.” Stated the Vice Chancellor .
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 to December 10, serves as a global call to action for individuals and organizations to unite in the fight against all forms of violence and discrimination against women.
