Leaders and activists gather for a dynamic Pre-Conference Breakfast Conversation hosted by PACJA, gearing up for the 69th UN Civil Society Conference in support of a sustainable future.

The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) convened a Pre-Conference Breakfast Conversation today in anticipation of the 69th UN Civil Society Conference, in support of the Summit of the Future. The event aimed to gather key stakeholders, experts, and activists to strategize and collaborate on pressing climate and sustainability issues ahead of the global conference.
The Pre-Conference Breakfast Conversation featured insightful discussions on the theme “Accelerating Climate Action for a Sustainable Future.” Participants engaged in dialogue regarding the urgency of climate action, the role of civil society in driving change, and innovative solutions to address environmental challenges.
During the breakfast conversation, high-profile speakers , participants at the event including leaders from PACJA, representatives from UN agencies, government officials, and prominent environmental advocates delved into critical themes and topics set to be adressed during the upcoming conference and emphasized the need for collective efforts to mitigate climate change, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable development goals.
During the session, participants highlighted the importance of grassroots movements, community engagement, and inclusive policies in achieving meaningful progress towards a more sustainable and resilient future. The conversations also touched upon the upcoming UN Civil Society Conference and the opportunities it presents for global collaboration and advocacy.
PACJA representatives also underscored the critical role of civil society organizations in advocating for climate justice and holding decision-makers accountable. Calling for increased collaboration across sectors and regions to address the interconnected challenges of climate change, social equity, and economic development.
The Pre-Conference Breakfast Conversation served as a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and fostering partnerships that will contribute to advancing climate action agendas at the global level. Participants left the event energized and committed to driving positive change leading up to the 69th UN Civil Society Conference and beyond.
The UN has organized civil society conferences since 1947, and to date, supporting 68 of these conferences. The 69th UN Civil Society Conference, will be held in Nairobi on 9-10 May. It is in support of the Summit of the Future that will be held on 22-23 September 2024 at UNHQ New York. The Summit of the future is aimed at developing an Intergovernmental Pact for the future. This Pact will include a Global Digital Compact and a declaration on future generations, aiming to establish a UN that serves people and the planet in the 21st century and beyond.
The convergence of these processes presents a unique opportunity to strategize the way forward for the United Nations and the global community. It will advance the work outlined by the 2030 agenda for Sustainable development and establish a world where no one is left behind. At the core of the Summit and its preparatory processes lies the question of how we can cooperate more effectively to advance and fulfil the aspirations of the UN Charter, SDGs, the Paris Agreement, and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. We must also consider how to better meet the needs of the present while preparing for future challenges. Civil society Plays a vital role in this global endeavor, bringing together solutions and approaches from all sectors of society. It is essential to foster a spirit of collaboration, true networked connectivity, and inclusive multilateralism
