A mother… A mother is the most revered, most compassionate, and most exalted being. Even prophets and kings have shown respect and honor to their mothers. A mother is a person who is ready to do anything for her child. Even Imam Bukhari, the sultan of the science of Hadith, mentioned the importance of respecting mothers in his work Al-Jami’ al-Sahih (The Authentic Collection).
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked, “Who is most deserving of my good treatment?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Your mother.” The man then asked, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man asked again, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man then asked, “Then who?” The Prophet replied, “Then your father.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 5971).
As this hadith indicates, no matter how much kindness we show to our mothers, it is never enough. Our lifetime would not suffice to repay the debt we owe them. Here, a famous Eastern proverb also fits well: “A single day of a mother’s service cannot be repaid with a hundred years of worship.”
A mother is the root of human life and the foundation of happiness. Showing respect and love to her is the supreme duty of every child. Through the good upbringing provided by our mothers, we are able to find our place in society. She is not only a mother but also our closest confidant. It is no coincidence that our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers.” For this reason, we must cherish our mothers and show them love and respect. Even a kind word or a little attention is immensely valuable to them because a mother is the essence and meaning of life.
When I think about my motherโs ability to give life meaning and enrich its essence, I recall my childhood. My mother was an ordinary woman, yet she loved listening to traditional songs. In the melodies of those songs, there was the joy of life, and behind my motherโs calm and composed demeanor, there were storms of emotion, as deep as the sea. Watching her during those moments, I was filled with awe. Perhaps my passion for art and literature was born during those moments.
If I could express the warmth of my heart to my mother, I would say: “You, who have tirelessly cared for your children, who never let us feel lacking compared to others. You, who nurtured us, cleaned us, and never let a speck of dust touch us. You are my mother, my pure Mother!”
Indeed, not just my mother, but all the mothers in the world dedicate themselves to their children. They forget themselves, striving only to see their childrenโs success and happiness. No matter how much we cherish them, it is never enough.
