PLWD Urged To Make Use Of Government Grants To Uplift Their Lives

Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD’s) have been encouraged to take advantage of the government grants to improve their lives.
The National Fund for Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) Finance Manager Antony Muli speaking in Nanyuki, Laikipia County while issuing tools of trade to the PWD’s said that the government had set a kitty to benefit abled differently persons.
“We are calling upon members of the public, PWD’s and media to help in highlighting vulnerable cases and sensitize them that the government has set aside the budget to support the abled differently persons,” said Muli.
Muli pointed out that NFDK had supported over 2500 PWD’s across the country with a tune of Sh60 million.
Additionally, he noted apart from economic empowerment to PWDs, they also support institutions in constructing buildings like dormitories to enable them access education at ease.
“We give grants to institutions of learners with disabilities to assist schools build dormitories, dining halls, classrooms and rams. We have a budget of Sh.70 million for that work,” revealed Muli.
During the exercise, barber tools kit, welding machine, salon, farm tool kits among other items were donated to spur the lives of the PWD’s in the county.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and noted that they would start businesses and change their lives.
On her part, Mary Wairimu, a beneficiary of salon kit and parent to a disabled child said the items would help her start an income generating activity to help his 10-year-old son.
“The items will be of great help to my child who has cerebral palsy because it has been hard for me to work due to his condition. With a salon at home, I will get my child’s daily bread,” she pointed out.
