North Imenti politician Carol Karimi Muriuki has lauded the government move to operationalise  a new sub county in North Imenti constituency

Muriuki said the newly launched Imenti East sub county is a big gain to North Imenti residents.

Muriuki who is aspiring for North Imenti parliamentary seat in 2027  in his second stab said although the sub county was gazetted in 2022 by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi it had not been operationalised  until last Friday when a new Deputy County Commissioner James Khamis Baya was officially commissioned by Meru County commissioner Jacob Ouma.

The new sub county offices for Imenti East  will be at Kiamwitari while North Imenti Sub county offices will remain at Meru town.

The new offices will be a reprieve for residents of Giaki, Thuura and Rwanyange who were travelling more than 10 kilometers to access services at Meru town. The creation of a new sub county will also create more jobs for residents as it will have separate recruitment of government jobs in police, Kenya Defense forces Teachers Service Commission and others.

Muriuki who spoke exclusively to Mount Kenya Times Newspaper said the new sub county offices will help residents get jobs as well as bring services closer to the people.

She urged incumbent Rahim Dawood to lobby for more funds to build big sub county offices that will have many government offices.

“We want our people not to miss out on police or Kenya Defence Forces recruitment and other government jobs so having one sub county was a great disadvantage,” Muriuki said.

“We want the legislator to build a big sub county headquarter like Kangeta or Kibirichia, we do not want substandard offices,” Muriuki said.

She also called on the national government for the addition of personnel in the national government administration officer and police and other government officers.

“We want a police station like Runogone to be having enough police officer and its own vehicle instead of relying for vehicle from Meru Police Station,” Muriuki

She said many sub chiefs in the Imenti East sub county have not yet been deployed.

She said in the Thimangiri market there is a lot of insecurity because there is no street lighting.

The opinion leader also raised an issue with sewerage system in Gakoromone market where the leaking sewerage is spilling over to water intakes in River Kathita and causing many water borne related diseases.

She exuded confidence she will trounce her opponent incumbent Rahim Dawood in the 2027 polls.
