Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi,

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged the Azimio coalition to reconcile with the reality and give the government an opportunity to serve Kenyans.

More than ever, Mudavadi said, it is time for leaders to unite and close ranks since the electioneering period is gone.

“The truth will set us free. As leaders time has come for us to close ranks, unite and reason together for us to move the country forward by finding common solutions. What we need to focus on is how to make the lives of Kenyans better by revamping our economy and creating jobs for our people,” Mudavadi said.

He made the remarks in Nyandarua on Saturday during the burial service of the late Freedom Marshal Mama Mukami, who was the wife to late veteran freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi.

Since all Kenyans aspire to have a decent society and nation, he insisted that it is critical to give the parliamentary committee spearheading the bipartisan talks a chance to guide the leadership both in government and the opposition on the key areas of focus as outlined by either side.

President William Ruto led a host of leaders, including his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Opposition leader Raila Odinga in mourning Mukami for her service to the nation.

“We have all agreed to go the parliamentary way in seeking solutions to the grievances being raised by the opposition. What will be key is for the committee, not to pierce the healing wounds of the post August 2022 polls but to lay a foundation that will lead to tangible, reasonable and progressive solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans” l,” added Mudavadi.

Similarly, Mudavadi called on the opposition to not only stay true to their words and deeds but also stop canvasing and using the window of demonstrations to raise their concerns.

“The former Prime Minister has severally indicated that President Ruto is his long-time friend. Many of us agree with him and we are now reminding him that his friend is the President of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, that is the plain truth,” said Mudavadi.

He added: “We went to elections, Kenyans made a decision and voted for Kenya Kwanza under the leadership of William Ruto who is now the President and that is the reality, it will not change now until the next election when Kenyans go to the ballot in 2027.”

Acknowledging that Kenyans are grappling with the high cost of living, Mudavadi said part of what led to the economic instability whose ripple effects are being felt now was the uncontrolled appetite for borrowing by the previous regime.

He said Ruto and his team is burning the midnight oil to ensure the ship does not sink further.

He also assured that mechanisms are being worked out to cushion Kenyans from further suffering as a result of an economy that is not working.

“I kept saying that the country’s economy will suffer a blow if we continue borrowing without regulating how we borrow and for what purpose we are borrowing. By then my friends now in Azimio who were part of the Handshake government used to say Mudavadi anabweka (barking). Now the reality has dawned, we have to stop digging the hole they left Kenyans in and seek solutions to get Kenyans out of that hole,” he insisted.

He called for national unity, truthfulness and forthrightness amongst political leaders if constructive dialogue has to prevail, adding that leaders should work together irrespective of their political affiliations and stands for the common good of the country.

“We must criticize and correct each other. We should all accept that criticism and for that matter constructive and positive criticism is essential for any growing democracy. But let us do it from a position of truth and not politicking. We cannot be in the same basket but we need to remain united and avoid taking Kenyans on a path that is will not be constructive,” said Mudavadi.

Mama Mukami Kimathi who died at the age of 93 years was eulogized as a fighter, mother, leader, mentor and an icon in the society.
