Maaga’s move is the second one to have hit Kisii County after Kenya National Congress gubernatorial candidate Manson Oyongo lost his running mate Dr Alfred Ndemo to ODM candidate Simba Arati.
However the residents termed the move impactless since they have made their own decision on whom they are going to vote for August 9.
Political analyst Dismus Mokua said that the move will not affect the election, the name of Maaga will be in the ballot box .
Mokua said that the move will affect matrix voting,it will be a boost for Machogu’s votes from his Nyaribari clan
According to Mokua gubernatorial race has been narrowed to three horse race Machogu , Chris Obure and Arati .
Prof Sam Ongeri said that his deputy moving away and joining another camp it does not affect him from carrying out his campaign.
Ongeri said that according to the law, Mr. Maaga remains to be his deputy and he will be at the ballot, but if he wins as a governor he will be sworn in, by Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and he can only change the deputy governor if he does not show up.
“That is the only time I can replace him with another deputy governor,”he said.
He urged electorates that he will be at the ballot box and vote for him and that does not bar him from achieving his ambition of becoming the governor .
Campaigns are gaining momentum in Kisii County as politicians seek to succeed incumbent Governor James Ongwae.
Those who wants to succeed the incumbent governor James Ongwae are Simba Arati (ODM) , Ezekiel Machogu (UDA), Chris Obure (Jubilee), Prof Sam Ongeri (DAP_Kenya), Manson Oyongo(KNC), Bishop Josiah Biyogo (independent) and Ratemo Onchiri (USAWA).
