It is really a profound concern to the respectful stakeholders for the rising prices of flour, cooking oil and other products. Majority Kenyans who can’t afford a packet of flour that has rose to 200 shillings are uncomfortably wailing silently, with no one to intervene but has turned to be a platform for politicians to campaign for. However, before 2017 elections the rise was experienced but not extreme as the current one, but the president ordered decrease of those prices.
Also the government went ahead and imported cheap maize which resulted to Kenyans buying 2kg packet of flour for 90 shillings. Mps who are supposed to pass laws for the same are still campaigning for seats yet their people are suffering uncontrollably. When this leaders are giving their manifesto they must showcase the idea of living standards to be lowered instantly. Kenyans are sleeping with empty stomachs.
While there are paramount incentives that are to be implemented like subsidized fertilizer for farmers, who toil at a high cost in planting and taking care of maize and other food crops and especially attack by parasites which never gives a positive output. Which can greatly impact positively the life standards for Kenyans? Consequently these are being promises of now and again. Even the market for the farmer’s produce is unrecognizable. It will be a relief for Kenyans if this is considered by these elected leaders.
For instance Malawi ensured there was first plenty production for domestic consumption before export which created sustainability for their citizens. If a president is one whose interests are prioritized on the people and MPs concerned of their role would not have reached this extent. But unfortunately the same leaders are using the crisis as a privileged platform for campaigning against Kenyans who are sobbing and silently since they can’t afford Sh.200 for flour.
