The Principal Secretary State Department for Water and Sanitation Dr Paul Ronoh yesterday launched and inspected several water projects in Embu County.
The PS’s itinerary started by visiting the Embu County Commissioner’s office and thereafter a courtesy call to the County Governor Cecily Mbarire.
Both the Governor and PS Ronoh jointly addressed the Media after signing up an MoU on Non-Revenue Water and general water infrastructure protection in the county.
The PS later flagged off the Water Police Protection Unit that will oversee the exercise within the area.
Several water projects inspected by the PS in the company of the County government leadership of Embu include commissioning of the Runyenjes TVET college. The Runyenjes TVET college has benefitted from the Ministry after a borehole was drilled to serve the students with a surplus serving the community.
Later the PS inspected the proposed site for Kamumu dam in Mbeere North constituency.
Upon completion, the dam will serve several towns including Ishiara and Kanyuambora as well as create space for 15,000 acres for irrigation.
Another dam earmarked for construction under the Public Private Partnership Model is Thuci dam to serve parts of Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties.
On the other hand, Thambana dam is upon completion expected to serve areas in Embu and Kirinyaga counties.
It is expected to produce 40 Million cubic meters of water per day.
The PS was flanked by among others Tana Water Works Development Agency chairman Wanyaga Gathaka, CEO Eng. Philip Gichuki, Stephen Kihara the Secretary Administration, Francis Bor SDS and the Water Police Protection Unit Commandant Mr. Joseph Kamau among other senior Ministry officials.
