Public Health ministry PS Mary Muthoni, has initially traced the cause of a strange ailment afflicting residents of Tabaka ward to the source of water consumed.
Addressing the residents at Amarondo, after inspecting the area, the PS told the residents to immediately stop using the water from the protected stream, saying preliminary laboratory results indicated contamination by some sewage matter.
She, however, clarified further investigations on the samples from the suspected water source and households were being subjected to further confirmatory tests.
Muthoni advised the residents to look for alternative sources of water which should be treated or boiled before consumption as they observed high standards of hygiene.
The residents were cautioned not to trust any information on the disease outbreak from sources other than health authorities to avert panic and injury among others.
Community Health Promoters, Public Health Officers and National Government Administration were instructed to intensify visits to homesteads and ensure the sick were rushed to health facilities for medication.
On interventions to contain the ailment, the PS pointed out, there should be no discrimination against patients on the basis of the level of government involved.
Patients were warned against rushing to chemists to buy non-prescribed medicines since they risked developing resistance with the attendant consequences.
For the last two weeks the disease with symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, headache and stomachache had been raging in the villages despite medication.
