Public participation on the proposed upgrade of Othaya town to municipal status was held this week.
Othaya Member of Parliament Gichuki Mugambi and dozens of stakeholders attended the meeting, held at Othaya CDF Hall where experts took them through on what it means to change the town status.
They were informed that the urbanization program will open up more funding opportunites from institutions such as World bank through the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP) where the town can receive upto 1 billion shillings per year .
“This program will create more job , increase the value of properties upwards as well as attracting new investors in our town,” Mugambi said after the successful meeting.
He said there was need to upgrade the town since it had of late expanded following the opening of among other things, the Kenyatta National Hospital, Othaya Annex which is a Level 6 facility.
Recently, through the initiative of the area MP, the town saw most of its surrounding roads upgraded to bitumen standards.
