Businesswoman Christabel Wambura Maranga has joined the crowded parliamentary race for Mathira seat.
Wambura who has joined the race after being pressured by her supporters yesterday joined ACK, Karatina town where she urged Kenyans to pray for the country as electioneering period enters the final stretch.
She said even though she was answering her supporters call, she was more concerned on the affairs of the whole country.
Until last week, incumbent area legislator Rigathi Gachagua has had an easy run as competitors seemed lightweights posing no real threat.
However, over the weekend Wambura who gave Rigathi sleepless nights in 2017 declared that she was firmly in the race and determined to capture the seat that eluded her in the last elections.
In the Jubilee nominations that were nullified she had beaten Rigathi hands down but he re-organised himself in the repeat primaries though the lady’s supporters believe to date that she was robbed and have been earnestly waiting for the announcement.
In the general elections, Gachagua emerged the winner with 53,000 on the ruling party’s ticket while “shush” as she is popularly known got 28,000 on an independent whitewashing the then incumbent Peter Weru Kinyua who trailed with paltry 3000 votes.
Others who have declared their interest in the race are Nairobi based businessman Waruru Gikandi who will be competing for the Jubilee ticket with Weru.
An aide to Murang’a County Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, Karweru Kiragu will be vying on Usawa kwa Wote party.
Yesterday, Wambura supporters led by Festus Gachuri were elated by her coming back saying she was result oriented and development conscious leader.
“If you move around the whole of Mathira, you can spot a project that Wambura supported even without being an elected leader. We welcome her and assure her of our support,” said Gachuri who was among dozens of her supporters who had accompanied her for the Sunday service.
