A few days ago, President William Ruto made yet other shocking and damning revelations that chronicled the events at the Bomas of Kenya ahead of the declaration of the final tally of presidential election results.
He said a plot had been hatched to abduct and murder the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
The plotters wanted their compliant commissioners (read ‘Cherera four’) to take advantage of the confusion and political uncertainty this would have created to declare Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance flag-bearer Raila Odinga as president-elect.
If they succeeded, this could have passed out as a civilian coup whose hallmark was to subvert the sovereign will of the people of Kenya.

There are those who support the President’s position. Let him set the inquiry.
Dr Ruto is a a God fearing man and as the Bible says the truth shall set us free.
He wants us to know the truth so that this is not repeated again.
However, there are those who believed there was not need of revisiting this matter.
Dr Ruto should accept one thing. He took over a divided nation.
So, he should focus on reuniting and healing our nation as opposed to reopening the wounds that were healing.
For Raila’s diehard supporters, it seems they went back to drawing board and have since changed the tack.
The steam and energy they exhibited in pushing for the formation of what many perceived as a ‘friendly’ commission of inquiry has gone down.
Looking at how Dr Ruto had dealt with the numerous traps they had set into his way since he was sworn in as the President, this would be their conclusion.
It is hard for us to have our way. Dr Ruto’s traits of being clever, shrewd and cunning politician stands out.
However, they would not want their supporters to interpret this to mean giving up on their role as an opposition outfit to put the government in check.
If Ruto insists on forming the inquiry, they plan to unleash this card.
The mandate of inquiry should expanded to cover the election related deaths and threats since 2007 General Election.
In 2007, we lost more 1,000 people. In 2017, a senior IEBC official and baby Pendo were killed.
Then, we should come to what transpired in 2022.
We shall expect the inquiry to tells us whether there was an attempt to abduct and murder Wafula Chebukati. If yes, who were involved?
After this, we believe the wheel of justice will take its full course.
For Azimio, this will not come from the bottom of their heart.
This will be a card meant to cast a false picture of holier than thou in the eyes of their supporters. ‘We believe in rule of law. So we will accept the verdict’.
But if it dawns the outcome will not favor them, I can bet they will reject the commission before the final report is presented.
They used the same template after the Supreme Court threw out their petition and when President Ruto exercised the power conferred on him by the constitution and set up a tribunal to probe the ‘Cherera four’.
The cost of undertaking this probe is another concern raised by members of public.
One of the schools of thought averred. There will be no problem if the inquiry meets its objectives.
We should bear this. Building a country that is anchored on tenets of democracy, constitutionalism and rule of law is expensive.
Besides bringing to book the culprits, we shall expect the Kenya Kwanza government to create a friendly environment for the implementation of proposed amendments to the electoral laws.
