Seek Government’s Expert Services For Better Production, KALRO Chairman Urge Farmers

chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge alias Wangùkù has urged farmers countrywide to visit and seek expert advice from government offices on crops and animal husbandry.
Dr Mathenge, a renowned farmer from Nyeri County said both National and County governments have experienced experts, some who sit idle in offices but are ready and willing to help farmers boost production in various sectors.
He noted that with the right information, farmers will be able to increase both quality and quantities of their produce.
“Let us make use of these highly trained and expert officers in government offices. Walk in there and say chairman Wangùkù has sent you and present your issues. If you are turned away or not helped send me an SMS and we shall deal with the issue,” advised the KALRO Chairman who spoke from the organization’s Katumani centre in Machakos county.
He said at KALRO, one of the key strategy is to ensure farmers are well advised in a timely manner.
“We want to be in touch with the farmers constantly, so that we can provide them with relevant information and advise that will be of great use to them,” said Dr Mathenge.
He said Kenyan farmers are hardworking but sometimes lack crucial information that leads to poor harvest and even losses.
Dr Mathenge told farmers to always seek expert advise and not to depend on unverifiable information in their farming ventures.
“We have seen farmers lied to about many issues and gone ahead to invest capital while they should have sought expert advice from government offices. The government is here to serve us. Let’s make use of it. Go to those offices and seek information. Attend farmers’ field days and agricultural shows and learn from experts,” he observed.
He noted that during such a rainy season farmers need to be carefully advised on how to take care of their crops and livestock by continuosly being informed.
