When delivering a good public speech below are some of the issues that you should pay attention to.

Be aware of your space and audience

When preparing for your presentation take into consideration the age, location, culture, level of education of your target group and customize you topic to properly fit the expectations of your audience.. In addition, ensure all tools needed during your presentation are available more so where you need to demonstrate.

The size of the audience population should also be factored since this will affect audibility

Location will be of concern when making face to face presentation, you should be clearly visible to all your audience.

Research well on your subject

To authoritatively speak on any subject you should be well versed in it.  You should have breadth and depth of your subject through reading about the subject, listening to others about your topic of interest and trying to figure out the various applications of your topic in life.

Try to be creative when structuring your speech, have a good expression of the interesting facts of the topic.

Be organized and concise

Do not ramble and get long-winded, you should have a good flow of information. This requires orderliness which will involve good preparation and segmentation of your message into an introduction, main body and conclusion.

Ensure that the main points are clear and well summarized.

In the body every main point should be well separated from the other.

After explanation of every main point you should pause.

Simplify your message

The main reason for public speaking is transmission of information, so your audience should be able to receive and understand your message to them

To achieve this, use terms which are simple to explain, easy to understand, easy to relate to, easy to pronounce and easy to remember.

Moderate your voice

Maintain a moderate voice while speaking and apply tonal variations when you want to put stress in your message.

Pause after highlighting any main point. This will give audience adequate time to process the information received.

Avoid apologizing

If you are a public speaker there is a high expectation from those who are listening at you. You are their director, you are their master in the topic under discussion.

If you happen to forget a point while presenting you should find a creative way of reintroducing it rather than showing confusion to your audience through apology. An apology renders you unreliable, your audience doubts all the information that you are disseminating to them.

Pay attention the message rather than yourself

When speaking to public the most important thing is to have the message received by your audience and that message sink deep in the mind s of the audience.

In case you have personal weaknesses, they should not be your main concern. Concentrate on message and you will succeed in your work.

Maintain good eye contact with your audience

One of the main aim of public speaking is to have good connection with your audience and it can be achieved through several ways among them use of space and body language.

Maintaining an eye contact is recommendable to make the audience feel as part of the conversation

In every sentence you should make eye contact with a single person apply the one look one thought or one look one sentence idea

While making your speech look at your audiences eyes long enough to finish a thought before proceeding and making eye contact with the next person until one is able to finish a thought

Look at the eyes of the audience.  Do not look at the floors, do not look at the people’s heads, and do not look at the ceiling

Visualise your message

Imagining making a presentation will give you confidence and connect you to the emotions of your audience.

Show confidence

When making a presentation your posture should show that you are comfortable with the location and subject.

The audience respects nonverbal communication same as they do for verbal communication. Ensure you are smartly dressed according to the occasion.

Standing upright with head held high and shoulders leaning backwards helps to deep-breath and have clarity in your vocal cords.

Avoid distraction like pocketing, playing with your pen and restless movements.
