Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has weighed in on the ongoing legal challenges surrounding the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF). Addressing the matter, Speaker Wetang’ula emphasized the critical need to address the implications of last year’s High Court ruling that declared the NGCDF Act unconstitutional.
“The High Court declared the NGCDF Act unconstitutional and held that the Fund and all its projects and programmes shall cease to operate next year. This has far-reaching implications for service delivery to our people,” he stated
Acknowledging the significance of the Fund in transforming communities across the country, the Speaker expressed gratitude to Members of the Legislative Caucus, led by co-chairs Hon. Otiende Amollo, and Hon. Samuel Chepkong’a. The caucus has been offering pro bono services in court on behalf of the House to safeguard the continuity of the NGCDF and its development objectives.
“This caucus has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the transformative objects of NGCDF are not lost,” he remarked, commending their dedication.
The Speaker’s remarks underscore the importance of preserving the NGCDF’s role in advancing grassroots development, even as the House seeks a sustainable resolution to the legal impasse.
Speaker Wetang’ula’s sentiments reflect the urgency of ensuring uninterrupted service delivery to the Kenyan people, particularly in areas that rely heavily on the Fund for infrastructure, education, and other critical community-based initiatives.
