Worth Noting:
- In this generation children are indiscipline in public, there is no respect at all for the elderly, on long holidays mostly students misbehaves openly in the daylight, but there is no one to caution them.
- Parents have masked themselves from this defending their children; it’s the new way of life. For instances, most mothers advocates for their daughters to be introduced to family planning techniques at a tender age. It’s ironical nowadays how people fear pregnancy than Sexual transmitted infections and HIV virus.
- That’s why traders who import sex toys harvest surplus and the rate of lesbians and gays is increasingly day in day out. If a student has tasted the waters, and you take him/her in a boarding school of single gender, what do you expect!
It was an uphill task during our times as far as grooming is concerned. If anyone older than you finds you misbehaving, there was no petition or filling of the case. The culprit face it rough, For instance if you are caught stealing or engaging in funny acts, you have to dance the music. That’s why discipline was paramount, cases like burning of schools, substance abuse and many others in disciplinary cases were unheard off. The child was seen as a special gem in a community and everyone was involved in the upbringing, not only in academics but also in social and spiritual matters.
But it’s high time for the present generation to trace where the rains did start biting them. The author of the book entitled, “Things fall Apart”, Chinua Achebe in his feels pity for the future generation, by metaphorically compares it to the suckers of bananas. He says that however much a banana may be sweet but doesn’t have suckers, its future is doomed… it’s useless. That’s why I too, do join the monologue by asking. Who cares for the new millennium?
It’s in this generation where parents are at the forefront to add spices in dooming their children. For instance, those who have been privileged to live in urban areas and jobs have consumed much of their time. To the extent of leaving the matters of their kids in the hands of their house helps, most do fight a losing battle. There are parents who think their children are angels just because they are pretending to be innocents, how I wish they could understand the proverb that goes, pretenders are worse than murderers.

Similarly, it is in the same generation where shameless mothers, goes to a supermarket or any place for shopping, but in her shopping list there is a packet of a condom for his son. It’s like no one wants to talk about sex education with his or her children. How can we curb this ugly monster called Sexual immorality, that result to transmission of HIV and STIs if the very combatants are on the battle front in advocating for exposure of pornographic literature to their children at a tender age.
This is the time to join hands and advocate for moral upbringing of children. Parents should not be outsmarted by their kids as far as grooming is concerned. This can only be achieved if parents are in touch with spiritual wellbeing of their kids’. If one is a Christian or a Muslim, they should work tooth and nail to make sure they show what is good for their children to expect a marvellous reap at the end. We should not brag as parents on how wealth is materially. For instance, it’s shocking how a child of a police officer or a pastor’s child, can be found in a criminal offence, and we are still beating around the bush.
Spare the rod, spoil the child. Period!
