It is with profound concern that I address the ongoing attempts by the Nakuru County Government, under the leadership of Governor Susan Wakarura, to unlawfully repurpose Afraha Stadium—a treasured county heritage site—for an affordable housing project.
Afraha Stadium has stood for years as a symbol of our cultural and sporting heritage. In accordance with national heritage principles, it is both unethical and unlawful for the county government to seize land designated for the Ministry of Sports and divert it to other uses, even under the guise of a national government initiative.
I call upon the Department of Infrastructure and Planning to immediately cease any plans to encroach upon Afraha Stadium land. Such actions undermine our shared values and threaten the preservation of a space that belongs to the people of Nakuru.
Should these plans proceed, I will support and advocate for all necessary measures, including mass action and legal proceedings, to protect this vital community asset. Afraha Stadium is not just land; it is a legacy, and we will not stand by as it is compromised.
Let this serve as a clear warning: the people of Nakuru will not tolerate the violation of our heritage.
