Nyeri County governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga yesterday led in the issuance of bursary cheques to beneficiaries of the Governor Full Scholarship program.

The 180 students who received the cheques have been having their fees fully paid by the local government for all the four years in school.

The beneficiaries from vulnerable families; two per ward, who scored above 350 marks are currently in Form 2, 3 and 4 in various secondary schools.

“This program which I initiated in 2018 aligns with our goals to ensure Education is accessible to all our Nyeri citizenry. Through the program we are educating over 300 students,” the governor said during the handing over ceremony.

He added, “Last year, my administration disbursed KSh40 Million to thousands of needy students as Elimu Bursary Funds. My government remains committed to supporting the education of our children, the improvement of academic performance in our county and, ultimately, the lives of our youth”.

He disclosed that his administration will soon be disbursing the Elimu Fund bursaries to assist some of the county’s students from vulnerable homes in secondary schools, colleges, polytechnics and special schools.

“I urge the students to maintain discipline as they report back to school and emphasize on the need to focus on their studies, to set goals and work towards achieving their dreams,” he said.
