Rose Museo, County MP, Makueni

The Kenya Women Parliamentarians KEWOPA hosted an engaging community forum in Makueni County, bringing together women leaders, CBO representatives, PWDs, youth, and other community groups. With the support of Uraia Trust and the embassy of Denmark
the forum focused on empowering participants to support women in politics and educating them on their rights. County MP for Makueni Hon. Rose Museo highlighted the importance of public participation, urging the community to actively engage in governance and support the leadership of women already in office.
She also encouraged attendees to share the knowledge gained with others, fostering greater awareness and involvement within their communities.
Women have fought tirelessly for their space in the political sphere, in efforts to attain gender parity and women empowerment. Leveraging on Article 27 (3) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 which upholds the principle of equality and non-discrimination by guaranteeing fair treatment for either gender, women have risen to break the glass ceiling.
Women’s underrepresentation in policymaking institutions means that their interests are also underrepresented (this goes the same for other vulnerable and marginalized groups in the country). This shortcoming has been addressed by Article 100 of the Constitution, which empowers Parliament to pass laws that advance the representation of marginalized groups. The persistent exclusion of women in Kenya to engage in politics is instigated by numerous factors that promote the prevailing standards of social, political, and economic barriers across the forty-seven devolved governments.
