In seeking ways to improve the declining performance of education in Tetu the area Member of Parliament Geoffrey Wandeto held a two day Education Managers consultative conference at Kagumo Teachers Training College where he spelt out his vision.
Days one of the meeting included headtechers and stakeholders from Primary and Junior secondary schools with yesterday’s Day two consisting of Principals and stakeholders from Senior Secondary School.
Yesterday, the stakeholders raised several issues among them performance improvement, raised school fees, High cost of school supplies and lack of enough teachers.
The MP said that they are engaging stakeholders in the senior secondary to reduce the high cost of education from school fees to the cost of operations in schools. L
He also said that the high cost of operations in running schools is caused by the high cost of school supplies as they are bought on loan thus high interest on the schools.
Due to lack enough teachers, schools board of management are forced to employ teachers at the cost of schools.
The MP promised to work with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure during the recruitment of 30,000 teachers by TSC to ensure all the sixty teachers employed by BOM in the area to be employed.
“We are borrowing a leaf from Kiharu and Kipipiri constituencies as they are already running successful programs on paying half of all the students fees, and we are sure we will make it fruitful” Wandeto added.
