How will the world understand that it’s not only the girl child that needs protection from gender based violence? The boy child is also vulnerable to all the harsh conditions that their female counterparts undergo. Many initiatives have been put in place; rescue centres, sanitary towels donations and education.

This has given the girl child a leeway to a position in today’s society. They have a voice in today’s world and have even gone ahead to hold lucrative positions in the political and economic world for e.g. President Samia Suluhu the president of Tanzania is the first female president in East Africa. The Chief Justice of Kenya; Hon. Martha Koome, is another eligible example and the list goes on. All these are great achievements but in the midst of all of it why the boy child isn’t also empowered like the girl child.

A girl being raped in today’s world news will cause a huge uproar yet when a boy is sodomised it is not seen as a big deal. Why is it so? The boy child also needs a voice .The government should also put in place initiatives to save the boy child.

Just like the girl child they need saving from myriad if challenges. They should be given equal opportunity to air out their voices so they could stop hiding in the shadows .This can also help reduce the number of teenage suicide among the boys because they are too scared to talk in fear of being regarded as wimps.
