If you stand on God’s Word in the name of Jesus, the devil has to obey you. The only reason he does not is that you waver in your faith. The devil never has to obey someone who wavers. The Bible says that one who wavers will not receive from God. (James 1:6-8.) Of course, he does not want to obey, so he looks for every little excuse not to obey. However, Jesus gave us all power and authority over demons and diseases. (Luke 9:1.)
You even have the power through the Holy Spirit inside you to take authority over any demonic influence on you. I am not talking about possession, but oppression. Many people stay oppressed all their lives and never get totally possessed. However, the way to become possessed is to enter into temptation and stay involved in whatever sin that means.
What does oppression mean? Demonic influence takes the form of such things as fear, nervousness, depression, rejection, self-pity, and so forth. You can keep a relationship with God and still be oppressed by demons. If you do fall into some kind of temptation, repent immediately and ask for forgiveness. If you believe the Word and walk in faith without wavering, the Holy Spirit will empower you for victorious living. Authority has to be exercised in faith to work, and it is true in your life what Christ Jesus said in Luke 10: 19, “ I have given you AUTHORITY to trample on snakes and scorpions and to OVERCOME ALL THE POWER of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
