Today, I woke up with astonishment of how there is a thin line between godliness and impurity. It is so easy to be swayed to indisciplines or immoralities, and for sure they have consequences, even immediately! God help us!. So, I went on my knees, my wife also in our matrimonial bed and I pray with intensity and being moved, surrendering myself to our God Christ Jesus, that HE may enable me, as well as my family, with the GRACE OF DISCIPLINE.
As we learned in the many sermons this year of the Lord 2023 , the word discipline in “discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7 NASB) is a word with the smell of the gym in it — the sweat of a good workout. It is an unabashed call to spiritual sweat. The rich etymology of “discipline” suggests a conscious divestment of all encumbrances, and then a determined investment of all of one’s energies. Just as ancient athletes discarded everything and competed gumnos(naked), so must the disciplined Christian man DIVEST(GET RID) himself of every association, habit, and tendency which impedes godliness.
Then, with this lean spiritual nakedness accomplished, he must INVEST ALL HIS ENERGY AND SWEAT in the pursuit of godliness. The lithe, sculpted figure of the classic Greek runner gives the idea. Stripped naked, he has put his perspiration into thousands of miles for the purpose of running well. Even so, the successful Christian life is always, without exception, a stripped-down, disciplined, sweaty affair. The understanding that vigorous spiritual discipline is essential to godliness accords with the universal understanding that discipline is necessary to accomplish anything in this life. The legendary success of the Kenyan Athlete Eliud Kipchoge, a multiple Champion in Marathon and long distance races is testimony to his remarkably disciplined life.
