Eileen Moynihan’s life reflects the power of creativity, perseverance, and service. Born in Chelmsford, Essex, England, she grew up on the Isle of Wight before settling in Ireland, where she built a remarkable career as both an educator and an author.
Early Life and Education
Eileen’s family moved to the Isle of Wight when she was three, shaping her childhood and love of learning. At eighteen, she entered La Sainte Union Teachers Training College in Southampton, where she trained as a teacher. After earning her Bachelor of Education degree, she joined her parents in Ireland in 1978, beginning a lifelong connection to her adopted home.
A Dedicated Educator
Over more than twenty years in Co. Cork schools, Eileen championed inclusive education. She helped establish one of the first Special Classes attached to a mainstream school in Ireland, earning respect for her compassion and dedication to students with special needs. In 1998, she deepened her expertise with a Diploma in Special Education from St. Patrick’s College of Education in Dublin.
A New Chapter: Writing and Retirement
When Eileen retired early in 2007, she embraced a new passion—writing. She joined the Longford Writers Group and S.C.B.W.I. Ireland, finding spaces that nurtured her creativity. Since then, she has published seven children’s books and two poetry collections, including her most recent, Finding the Scribe. Her work appears in multiple anthologies, and she co-authored a poetry book with Pakistani poet Anila Bukhari.
Recognition and Accolades
Eileen’s achievements have been celebrated worldwide. She has been profiled in Moonlit Mavens by Anila Bukhari, Women Who Lead, and 100 Inspiring Tales of Dreamers and Doers by Ayesha Talib. More recently, she appeared in The Most Inspiring Female Leaders of the World by Anila Bukhari. In 2025, she was a finalist in the Women Changing the World Global Awards in two categories: Women in Literature – Children’s Book and People’s Choice Award – Education.
