Stephen Chandiwana
[Zimbabwean Poet]
Argh, how wretched I am
Hounded by anon misfortunes.
Misery riddles the only soul of mine
Poverty trammels the mere me.
Argh, how wretched I am
Whose parents were never afforded
A chance
To witness their beloved son
Stumble on his feet to balance.
Argh, how wretched I am
Whose dreams were shattered
A whale of time ago.
Ambitions never satiated,
Life ill-fated by forgotten chums.
Argh, how wretched I am
Despised by everyone in the vicinity,
For I yearn for straight deals
To keep me afar from ado.
Argh, how wretched I am
Whose life is hardship manifested.
I mount atop mountains barefoot
And roam the alleyways
Tortured by ravenous hunger.
Argh, how wretched I am
I scramble alone to overcome adversity,
With no shoulder to cry on when defeated
For the kith and kin are untraceable!
