ODM Leader Mr. Raila Odinga and President William Ruto

There is no development and progress that can be realized in a country in absence of peace and unity.
One can therefore understand where President William Ruto and his political foe-turned-ally Raila Odinga are coming from.
A few days ago, the two leaders signed a political unity pact, marking yet another key milestone towards building a united and cohesive nation of Kenya.
Listening to their speeches, there was no doubt they hold the issue of peace and unity close to their heart.
“The country is more important than any one of us. This pact we are launching have nothing to do with upcoming 2027 General Elections or sharing of government’s positions. It is about working together to address the myriad of challenges facing our people”.
Apart from hundreds and thousands of their supporters, the two party leaders were accompanied by a host of leaders of their respective political party.
They included the Secretary General of each party who signed the pact on behalf of their outfit.
The ceremony was held at Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC).
UDA and ODM’s 10-point blueprint highlights key objectives of this partnership with the main focus being on full implementation of National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report and other proposals designed to transform the lives of Kenyan people for better.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah co-chaired the Bomas of Kenya constitutional talks that heralded in birth of Nadco report.
The unveiling of the pact comes in the wake of recent developments that saw President Walliam Ruto unveiling a broad-based Government.
Key allies of Raila and former President Uhuru Kenyatta have since joined his government.
This is not the first time we are seeing the incumbent President reaching out to the opposition leader for a truce.
During Mwai Kibaki’s era, the talks between him and Raila birthed the Grand Coalition Government. The two leaders shared power equally.
During President Uhuru Kenyatta, the unity talks birthed the ‘Handshake’ government.
