The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party held its second successful sensitization campaign in Tharaka Nithi County ahead of the second phase of polls scheduled for 28 and 29 this month in 13 counties.
The meeting held at Kajuki Eco-Lodge in Chuka/Igambang’ombe constituency witnessed a big turnup of enthusiastic aspirants among them elected leaders led by Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisrael and Ms Diana Mbuba who has already announced her bid for the Women Representative position in the 2027 polls.
The UDA party elections team led by the National Elections Board Vice-Chairperson Ms Veronica Chebet clearly explained the aspirants the election regulations and also agreed on the ground rules well before the elections.
Ms Gladys Chebet, a trainer explained that an aspirant has to apply for one position starting from a polling centre unless the elected leaders can start from the level of their elective position.
She said those who will win at the polling centre will proceed to the ward elections and the same process will continue to the county level.
“The UDA Members of County Assembly can start at the ward level, Members of Parliament at constituency level and Senators, Women Representative, Deputy Governor and Governors can wait up to the county level,” said Ms Chebet.
She noted that the UDA party is keen on gender balance, youth and people living with disabilities representation and urged the categories to apply in good numbers.
While calling for peaceful elections, Ms Chebet said aspirants who will not be contented with the election results will have to challenge within 48 hours else the outcome will be upheld.
Mr Muisrael and Ms Mbuba promised the party leadership of peaceful campaigns and grassroots elections.
“In 2022 elections, we were number two out of the 47 counties on the percentage of voters who voted for President William Ruto and that shows how much we value him and the UDA party,” said Mr Muisrael.
Ms Mbuba assured President Ruto that even in 2027 the county residents will be solidly behind him and the county UDA candidates.
“We are ready for the grassroots elections and we assure our President of peaceful polls,” said Ms Mbuba.
Also present was Ms Wanja Karuku, a nominated MCA who asked the residents to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza government and to join the UDA party.
