Hon. Anne Wamuratha - Women Rep Kiambu County Addressing the crowd at the Homebiogas Anniversary Celebration
By John Kariuki
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, which has been observed since 1949. This annual event serves as a platform to raise awareness about mental health and to combat the stigma surrounding Mental Health Issues.
Kiambu Woman Representative Ann Muratha is on the frontline making sure that issues of mental health wellness are well understood
For a long time, the stigma surrounding mental health issues have seen people shy away from discussing issues affecting them psychologically. Many cases of family breakups, suicides, homicides and alcohol abuse can be avoided if handled early and professionally.
Hon Wa Muratha notes:
“Through education, advocacy, and support, we strive to create a more understanding and compassionate society for those with mental health issues.
It is worth to note that 85% of all diseases are psychosomatic by nature.
Wa Muratha is committed to promoting mental health and wellness in Kiambu County. Her Desire as mama County is to see Mental Wellness addressed across the 60 wards in Kiambu County through advocacy and establishment of counseling and wellness units in all wards.
These units will provide psychological services and support to members of the public, bringing help closer to those who need it.
Wa Muratha concludes:
“We understand that life isn’t always easy, and there are times when we may need extra support. Remember, it’s natural to experience ups and downs in life, and it’s important to seek help when we need it. Let’s embrace the natural cycle of life and take care of ourselves and each other. Together, we can build a healthier and happier society for all. A problem shared is half solved. ”
