Nyeri leaders have vowed to embark on a massive registration drive of the new Democracy for the Citizens Party in the country that will put them ahead nationally.
The leaders drawn from aspirants of various seats and former officials of other parties, converged at a Nyeri hotel just a day after the the unveilling of the party.
Led by lawyer Davidson Warutere who took up the interim Secretary’s role lauded the party leader for his assurance that there would be no direct nominations at all levels.
” All aspirants and potential party members are elated by the party leader’s assurance that he would not extend favours to any member including his very close aquintances,” said Warutere who aspires to take over the seat which was once held by Gachagua.
He added, ” people especially in Mathira have been disappointed by Gachagua’s successor whom he personally handpicked to succeed him but ironically turned out to be his biggest betrayer”.
Former Nyeri town mayor, Wanyaga Gathaka who those present picked as their county coordinator urged residents to register the party in large numbers and ensure that the party leader who comes from the county is respected at the national level.
” Like our party leader has always been saying, each one of us has a home and if you are not respected where you come from, it’s not possible to earn respect and even votes elsewhere,” noted Gathaka whose appointment as chairman of Tana Water Works Development Agency was revoke recently in what he believes was due to his unshakeable support for the former DP
Youthful former Kabaru ward MCA Duncan Gituanja called on the youth to register as voters and come out to vote when elections are called and help in shaping their own destiny.
“In the past, the youth have kept in voting allowing elders to determine their destiny, a practise that must cease. We must take our future in our own hands”, declared Gituanja who has declared his interest in the senatorial seat.
Mahinda Kanyora (Wa Mercy) who will act as county chairman called opposition principals not to let down citizens by disintegrating as that would be a direct ticket for the incumbent – William Ruto-to return to state house with ease.
He vowed to ensure that by the date of the party’s launch on 4th June, Nyeri county will be leading in membership registration.
“When the IEBC is fully in place, we shall mobilise and assist the youth to in getting IDs and boost our current 480 thousand registered voters”, averred Kanyora.
