What should be done to protect done to protect the water source and environment

- Ugandans should know that when the water sources are tempered with, the economy will never move on again, people’s livelihoods and environment will also fall into a big threat therefore a lot needs to be done to ensure the management of water and environment. And these include
- The ministry of water and environment should work in partnership with other stakeholders such as local leaders, cultural leaders; religious leaders, forest host communities and others form the grass root to national level to protect water and environment putting in place environmental laws that are going to going to stop encroacher from entering the wetlands, create the mind set and sensitize the public
Last week the media reported about Beatrice Anwyar the minister of water and environment launching the 5th Uganda water and environment week under the theme of ensure that the Ugandan population understands the role of water and environment resources in peace and socio-economic transformation of Ugandan population which will contribute to middle income status. The campaign started on 20th to Friday 25th March 2022. It is aiming at strengthening the conservation efforts of the protected areas especially water source and forests.
The water sources needs to be protected because water is life and it is the engine of the most sectors in Uganda for instance through irrigation, water has supported agricultural sector which has contributed about 80% of employment to the Ugandan population, it also supports water transport, attract tourists, supports industrialization, home of the aquatic life and supports the energy as well.
In addition to that water is a basic need to human life and supports sectors which provide jobs and food to the vulnerable groups of people.
Today most of water sources and forest have been encroached by the investors and rich men to carry out the development which are not even contributing much to economy and employment.

The ministry of water and environment should work in partnership with other stakeholders such as local leaders, cultural leaders; religious leaders, forest host communities and others form the grass root to national level to protect water and environment putting in place environmental laws that are going to going to stop encroacher from entering the wetlands, create the mind set and sensitize the public about the importance of water and environment, encouraging the public to carry out the good agricultural practices to reduce the silting of rivers, restoring the forest cover which will support the water catchments and allocating enough of funds to ministry of water and environment to enable eco-friendly activities to be implemented hence increasing the conservation efforts.
The protection of the water and environment will also lead to the achievement of national development plan (NDP III) and the sustainable development goal (SDGS 7).
Therefore, I call on the government to use the launched parish development model program to ensure that the water and environment are conserved, this will reduce water scarcity, food shortages, electricity shortage and the cases of flooding that have been taking place across the country and other.
