Narok County Governor Patrick Ntutu

Narok County Governor Patrick Ntutu announced that the Narok County government will compensate victims of wildlife attacks with Sh3 million, in addition to Sh5 million from the national government.
The bill is currently in its final stages at the County Assembly and is expected to be passed before the end of the year.
“The bill is in the County Assembly being debated by the Members of the County Assembly; I believe they will pass it before the end of the year so that I can be signed into law,” said Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu.
The initiative is anchored in the Maasai Mara Management Plan 2023–2033, which was passed into law last year.
The county government has trained and equipped rangers in Narok County to ensure their effectiveness and efficiency in patrolling the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Over 60% of the Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA) have undergone training and are well-equipped to tackle their job.
The Maasai Mara ecosystem generates about Sh3.5 billion annually, and the compensation is expected to motivate the Maa pastoralist community that lives with the animals and has reported numerous cases of human-wildlife conflicts.
