You Take My Heart To Your Village
Collaborative Poem by:

You take my heart to a farther distance
To cushion it in the Village of your birth
With this confide to meet your people,
Your mother, brothers and sisters
I want to be her endearing daughter
And proclaim her for such petalous
Deportment in you.
I want to clean her earthenware, spiky
And spun after serving the usuu
And dish for everyone the whole grain
Of isyo,
I know they will like this cooked maize
And beans
I want to fall on my knees and hand
Over to your father the kegful of
Spring water
Will you journey with me outside your
Heart on the beautiful paths of your
People?
Will you prune the dust from my heart
And spread the petals to sleep in the Cold?
I want to meet the Village Priest who
You said has stiffly tethers to affiliate
Our hearts
I know you will kiss me in front of the
Congregation,
Thereat mothers will ululate, and sing
The Mutwaano songs
Children press to dance and upkeep
Our worthy,
Singing the Mbathi sya wendo style,
Fathers will sanctify the occasion
And confer prosperity and happiness
Their tonal whistles candy kissing
The mellow sky to orbit upon prayer.
As we sit on mukeka sharing kinaa
Kya Mwee,
My grandfather will show you our
Fertile land
Where you will grow the pumpkins and
The running beans for the family
On this land that gives birth to beautiful Daughters;
Women who greet men with obeisance, Their knees kissing the soil
And their lips full of respect,
They’ll receive you with ecstatic joy and Tell you of our ancestry lineage
Which planted this good habits you see Embroidered in me!
