40,000 Youths To Be Recruited For Nairobi River’s Regeneration Project

Over 40, 000 youths from Nairobi will be recruited for the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration project that aims at raising the profile of the city in a bid to attract more investors and improve its economic output.
The youths will be tasked with ensuring faster realization of the key project under Climate WorX initiative funded by the national government and aims at cleaning the city rivers, construction of new sewer lines, new social housing units, collection of disposal solid waste among others.
Already 22, 000 youth are on site after President William Ruto launched the Regeneration Project on Monday. Another 18, 000 will join beginning next month.
This is on top of thousands who are already employed in various sites where construction of affordable housing units is ongoing.
During a development visit to Dagoretti South, Dagoretti North and Westlands constituencies yesterday, the President and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki challenged the youth to enroll in the two-year project indicating their crucial role in its successful implementation.
“We are creating job opportunities for our youth and women to ensure they get a source of income and our country moves forward. The Climate WorX program presently employs 22, 000 youths and is being expanded to accommodate 18, 000 more,” the President said.
The Deputy President said it is the government’s sole endeavor to accommodate as many youths and women in gainful employment through various initiatives adding that the Regeneration program is top of the administration’s agenda.
“Our agenda as a government is to create jobs in every possible sector for our young people. That is why we are creating job opportunities through affordable housing, Nairobi Rivers Regeneration and other programs under Kazi Kwa Ground and also online through KaziMtandaoni through ICT hubs and also jobs abroad under KaziMajuu program,” DP Kindiki added.
On the third day of the development tour of the Capital City, the President inspection the ongoing construction of Mutuini Fresh Produce Modern Market, Riruta Modern Market, expansion of Dagoretti Sub-County Hospital, opened the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Laboratory at PC Kinyanjui Technical and Training Institute and laid the foundation stone for Dagoretti Jitume Centre of Excellence (ICT Hub) in Dagoretti South constituency.
In the neighbouring Dagoretti North, he inspected construction of Kawangware Primary Junior Secondary-Tuition Block, new classrooms at Gatina Primary School, Dagoretti North and opened Gatina Junior Secondary Tuition Block.
In Westlands constituency, he opened Kangemi Junior School tuition block and inspected construction of Kangemi Bridge-James Gichuru Junction-Rironi Highway.
The President, accompanied by the DP and Nairobi leaders, also addressed wananchi at various stop-overs at Kawangware, Riruta, Congo, Stage 2, Stage 56 and Kangemi Centre assuring them of his government’s unrelenting focus on development of the two constituencies and the entire city. The Head of State said the quest to unite the country for long-term prosperity is unstoppable.
“We are not interested in the politics of hate, negative ethnicity and discrimination against anyone based on tribe, religion or origin. My work as President is to bring together all the leaders and Kenyans so we focus on development of our country because it is the only way we can improve agricultural production, build roads, connect more Kenyans to electricity and improve the economy,” President reiterated.
Kindiki said development is achievable in a united and tranquil nation without discriminative tendencies.
“We want a patriotic, united country. Now it is time to develop a united country for us to be a strong nation. We must be united and stop discrimination of all kinds for our country to move forward,” DP said.
