Each year on the 14th of November, the world joins hands to commemorate the world diabetes day. Established in the 1991 by the international diabetes federation with support by the World Health Organization and become officially a United Nations day on the year 2007 where the General Assembly designating 14 November as World Diabetes Day.

This day according to the United Nations General Assembly was to urgently pursue multilateral efforts to promote and improve human health, and provide access to treatment and health care education.

Globally, it is estimated that over 422 million adults are living with diabetes, with Kenya being ranked by the International Diabetes Federation as the 31st African country in terms of diabetes with a prevalence of about 460 diabetic cases per 10,000 population and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the prevalence of diabetes in Kenya is at 3.3% and predicts a rise to 4.5% by 2025
