What were You Doing?
(When I was Breathing My Last)
What were you doing,
When I was breathing my last
On that Friday night
Were you just passing by
And smiling to my mother crying
Or were you bending to kneel down
And pray for me?
Did you see it a mystery
Cover page on a newspaper
Took your phone and clicked on the camera
Or were you counting seconds
Time before my pulse pass
Or were you watching a video
With moaning sounds on the hub?
What were you doing
When I was breathing my last
On that Friday night
Were you with your sister
Same clothes like ties of a pastor
Enjoying filters on the snap
Or were you recording the scene
Eye witnesses need to tell a tale
Or what really matters to the guards.
Were you afraid of the misery
Street bulb above shining some hope
And called God above the dark clouds
Were you watching lines in the air
Or palms on the streets
Or did you just get some energy
And run.
What were you doing
When I was breathing my last
On that Friday night
Where you the one holding me
Crying out like a baby
Or did you find this picture some time
And wrote a poem about it?
