PS RAYMOND OMOLLO

Principal Secretary, State Department of Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo has highlighted the importance of multisectoral collaboration in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse in the country. Speaking
Speaking during the launch of the national survey report on the status of drugs and substance use in Kenya 2022 the PS noted that 1 in every 10 people used drugs in the country in 2022:
“The fact that more than 4 million people used drugs in the country in 2022 was truly staggering, that is 1 in every 10 people. What was more disconcerting was knowing that all ages from 15-65 are affected and initiated to various substances of abuse at the young ages of 6 – 8 years.
Unfortunately, the most productive years lie within this bracket, and this is fast being eroded by alcohol, that is the most actively used, and cannabis whose use has increased by 90 percent in the last 5 years.
Our potential and work force that could otherwise contribute to the growth and development of our communities is far worse now than at independence 60 years ago.
I am particularly impressed with the sustained public awareness campaigns and the progressive investment in increasing access to addiction treatment and rehabilitation programs.
