Nyeri County gubernatorial candidate Dr Thuo Mathenge has said he will ensure coffee farmers in the area will be earning at least Sh500 for every kilogram of coffee they produce.
The farmers, Dr Mathenge says must earn maximum benefit from their produce which he referred to as black gold.
The candidate who is contesting on The New Democrats (TND) ticket has on several occasions said he has a secret to the high earning and will ensure they reap maximum benefits.
Yesterday, he reiterated the same message when he paid a courtesy visit to Tekangu Coffee Cooperative Society at Giatuu in Kirimukuyu ward of Mathira constituency.
At the meeting which was attended by hundreds of coffee farmers, he explained to them what they need to do with their coffee so as to get good proceeds.
“When I become your governor I will ensure that every coffee factory has coffee hurlers for value addition to fetch at least 500 shillings per kilogram,” he told the authentic farmers who promised to support his gubernatorial bid.
“Dr Mathenge is a true agent of change. That is why everybody here and in the entire county is saying No Wangùkù, No Wangùkù, No Wangùkù. This is the leader we want,” said Peter Mwangi after the meeting.
