Members of Parliament from Mt Kenya East region yesterday picked Interior and National Government Administration Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki to be their spokesman.
The MPs from the region that comprises Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties resolved in their parliamentary group meeting that their link between them and the Executive would henceforth be Prof. Kindiki.
Addressing a press briefing at Izaak Walton Inn in Embu County where the meeting took place the lawmakers unanimously endorsed the Interior CS as their link to the national government in matters of governance and politics.
A press statement issued after the meeting read in parts, “as the elected leaders from the Mount Kenya East region, we have met today and after comprehensive deliberations, we have unanimously resolved to chat the way forward for the socioeconomic development and political agenda of our people and the region as bloc. Today’s meeting is a crucial step in shaping our collective efforts to deliver the progress and growth that our constituents in Mt. Kenya East deserve.”

They called on the Kenya Kwanza administration to prioritise completion of some development projects that were initiated under the previous administration but are yet to be completed.
Such projects, they noted include critical road infrastructure, water projects, and electrification programs and which they noted are vital to the prosperity and well-being of the region people.
While pushing for the development projects, the MPs observed, “Mount Kenya East holds significant voting numbers, making us a critical region in shaping the political and development direction of our country. Our voice and collective decisions in national matters cannot be assumed”.
The statement added, “as we continue to support and oversight the government, we remind our leaders that our numbers matter, and we expect to see more development initiatives to reflect our contribution to the national vote. As a region, we have come of age and wish to henceforth canvass development matters affecting our people as distinct entity”.
Further, the noted, “as the legislators of Mt. Kenya East, and on behalf of our people, we have unanimously agreed that the link between us and the executive is Prof. Kithure Kindiki. Mount Kenya East is on the rise”.
The MPs present were Geoffrey Ruku (Mbeere North), Eng. Nebart Muriuki (Mbeere South), Pamela Njoki (Women Rep. Embu County), Alexander Mundigi (Senator, Embu County), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Kareke Mbiuki (Nithi), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Mpuri Aburi (Tigania East), Patrick Munene ( Chuka Igamba Ngombe), Karitho Kiili (MP, Igembe Central), Kairemia Elizabeth (Women Rep. Meru County), Dr. Mutunga John (Tigania West), Taitimu Julius (Igembe North) and George Murugara (Tharaka).
The move is seen by pundits as an initiative of separating from the Mount Kenya West where Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hails from.
