The school as well as the government should schedule events throughout the school year for teachers that cover innovative pedagogical and methodological strategies, the integration of new technologies, and other essential topics in the curriculum now that Grade Nine(9) is already on board. We heard in the holiday that Junior Secondary teachers were offered Retooling course. What about those in private schools. This differences should be sorted within this school year. To parents, understand that building a partnership this year with the school and with your child is vital. Schools have been known for building partnerships through calling for parents engagement meetings, keeping the parents up-to- date learning progress of the child. As a parent you have to create your own time for this. Check the wellbeing of your child. Check in to the school anytime and get to see how the learners do during their leisure time. Get involved by discussing how school was with your child after school and during weekends. Doing this you will have the opportunity to see your child as a learner not just your baby.
Going into the new year, we cannot forget that making learning, feedback and assessment visible to parents allows for more meaningful conversations about school around the dinner table. This will help the child to be open to things that happen in school. As a parent you will be able to hear a lot of stories concerning the teacher and even the other learners. Having this you will access the growth and development of your child as time progresses.
This new school year even children and learners have a part to play. Learners are encouraged to give their own view. This helps in creating engagement.
They should be advised to work on themselves and with others. Learning through discovery, self- assessment and self- realization as well as self – regulation. These are important tools to the learner and students to evoke their engagement in the education process.
A school calendar is valuable. This is seconded by great philosophers of education. It is a valuable tool that keeps the school year well organized. By including very important dates such as the exam days, school meetings and events helps in keeping every stakeholder informed and prepared. This should be done in time and communication done to various stakeholders.
Communication is vital. Effective communication helps in the smooth running of the institution. Parents, students, and other community members as well as the government should be informed about the school year’s objectives. What the school needs to achieve. Projects if there are any. This not only promotes transparency but also fosters a sense of collaboration and shared responsibility between the stakeholders. When everyone in the community understands the goals, it creates a more united effort toward achieving them and enhances the overall learning experience. This brings about success in everything that is done.
In Conclusion, It is essential and very important to set clear and realistic goals for the school year. All stakeholders should by now understand that we do not set goals to show how mighty we can be but we set goals to fulfill them. These goals can range from improving teaching methods to implementing new technologies in the classroom. By defining precise objectives, both school directors and teachers can work with more focus and efficiency, ensuring that every action aligns with the overall mission and vision of the school.
