Catholic institutions mark Saint Teresa’s Day with mass, celebrations and a shared pledge on discipline and results

Three Catholic-sponsored schools in Bikeke came together yesterday to mark Saint Teresa’s Day in a joint celebration that combined religious observance, cultural performances and a collective dedication of candidates sitting national examinations later this year.
The annual occasion brings together Bikeke Comprehensive School, St Teresa’s Bikeke Girls Senior School and Bikeke Boys Senior School — three institutions that share a Catholic founding and a common commitment to academic and moral development. This year’s host was Bikeke Boys Senior School, whose principal, Bernard Masinde, oversaw an event that drew clergy, teachers, students and guests from across the three campuses.
The day’s programme included a Holy Mass, prayers, songs, dance and the formal dedication of candidates preparing for this year’s Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. The liturgy was presided over by Episcopal Vicar Fr Moses Nandakonya, alongside Parish Priest Fr George Sindani, school chaplain Fr James Nandakonya Omasete, Fr Moses Wekesa and Fr Cyprian Tum. Seminarians Laban Kipchumba and Kizito also took part, supported by catechists Elia Tabalia and James Simiyu.

All three principals used the occasion to call for prayers and Saint Teresa’s intercession over their institutions. Masinde emphasised the importance of discipline as a foundation for meaningful academic results, while St Teresa’s Girls principal Eva Wendy Tsuma expressed confidence in her candidates and looked forward to strong performances in the forthcoming assessments. Bikeke Comprehensive School head of institution Ronald Francis Toili Wamalwa extended warm wishes to all candidates and joined colleagues in marking World Teachers Day, saluting the dedication of teachers across the three schools.
Wamalwa also shared personal news, informing those gathered that he had represented the county at the regional World Teachers Day competition, placing fifth in the Rift Valley region in the Sustainable Development Educator category. He is set to travel to Nairobi on Sunday for the national celebrations at Kasarani Stadium.
The three principals used the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to closer collaboration, pledging to work together for the continued growth and wellbeing of the Bikeke schools community. A vote of thanks was delivered by Cedric Ogetto before guests and students were treated to a meal at the boys’ school.
