Collaboration poem from Zimbabwean Poets
Stephen Mupoto [Ngugi Wamkiri]
Norman Mwale [The PenPusher]
Upon this epitaph
Our names are written.
We are the broken
And downtrodden,
The vanquished and despised,
And our names are written
In our blood.
This very clot suffocates our
Existence,
We are the lesser on the wrung,
And in all we remain nonentities
Who still traverse in those pains
Of giving birth,
With born infants long mired after
Birth.
We are this parody
Of our black existence,
Rebuffed by the stinking morning
Rays
Whose memory has crooked
And departed
In the weeny hour of the
Endured dawning
From where our epitaphs are
Written in flyblown ink!
With forgotten galaxy
And their splendiferous accolade
That expired before bear.
