The continued pervasive reports of suicidal cases in the mainstream media and entire community are really disheartening with many lives lost in mere ropes.
Various suicidal cases have continued to transcend boundaries. In Australia, thousands of deaths occur by suicide every year; the statistics are not merely numbers but are dreams and lives lost on the cruel hands of death.
Kenya is not an exception, according to reports from World Health Organization; Kenya ranks position 114 among the 175 countries with the highest suicide rates. Since the beginning of the year 2024, many cases of individuals resolving to suicide as the best solution have been reported.
Recently, a Junior Secondary School teacher in one of the schools in Trans Mara, Narok County identified as Benard Langat resolved to take his own life by hanging himself on the verandah roof with reasons behind it anonymous.
It is with a notable concern that shedding light on suicidal ideation will be beneficial to victims and the whole society making them realizes that the perverse action only continues to jeopardize their lives and glorious future.
Suicidal ideation can range from fleeting thoughts of death to more specific plans of committing suicide. These thoughts are always distressing and overwhelming and therefore the following ways are vital in discouraging this vice:
Awareness; awareness creation on countering different life dilemmas can be effective. Governmental and non-governmental bodies joining hands in addressing these issues is essential in sabotaging suicidal thoughts during insurmountable life situations.
Challenging your thoughts; it’s crucial to realize that not all unfavorable decisions or break-ups can be countered by suicide, understanding that feelings including suicidal ones will pass and therefore questioning their validity will shed more light.
Engagements; distract yourself by engaging in activities that diverts your attention from suicidal thoughts, for instance, reading a novel or listening to music.
Professional help; going for therapy lessons in with reliable therapists will help in the realization that life is more than how many times people brake and disappoint us , but life itself is like the two sides of a coin.
Routine screening; incorporating routine assessments in your diary for suicidal risks will help in countering suicidal thoughts at the onset and therefore easily managed before hitting the peak.
In conclusion, remember that seeking professional help and connecting with supportive and helpful sources will provide the lee-way to a suicidal free country making the difference for those experiencing suicidal ideation. This will ensure that every life is valued!
