Kenya’s National Assembly Bolsters Legislative Efficiency With New House Business Committee Appointments

In a move to enhance legislative efficiency, the National Assembly of Kenya has approved the appointment of nine new members to the House Business Committee (HBC). The approval follows nomination letters submitted by Kimani Ichung’wa, Leader of the Majority Party, and Junet Mohammed, Leader of the Minority Party. The newly appointed members include Omboko Milemba, Robert Mbui, Faith Gitau, Samuel Chepkonga, Adan Keynan, TJ Kajwang’, Sarah Korere, Joshua Mwalyo, and Umulkheir Kassim Sheikh.
These appointments are crucial as they join key figures like Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to form a robust committee responsible for setting and managing the National Assembly’s agenda under Standing Order 171. The HBC plays a pivotal role in preparing and adjusting the Parliamentary Calendar, overseeing implementation of House business, scheduling committees’ activities, and ensuring timely consideration of bills and motions.
Speaker Wetang’ula emphasized that these appointments are vital for planning an effective legislative schedule. With these new appointments in place, Kenyans can anticipate more coordinated legislative efforts aimed at addressing pressing national issues effectively through well-planned agendas set by this revamped committee.
