Four senior Nyamira county officials have been released on a bond of Ksh.500, 000 or a cash bail of Ksh.200, 000 over the allegations of abuse of office .
The four; Peter Omwansa, Beatrice Siribah ,Geoffrey Ogeto and Chadrick Maranga were arrested for abuse of office by Ethics and Ant Corruption Commission (EACC) for a crime they committed in 2016, they were arraigned in a Kisii court on 3rd March 2025 and they were referred in Nyamira law court.
The individuals are accused of hiring 56 staff members irregularly in the Department of Gender, Youth, Culture, and Social Services without authority contrary to section 63 of the county government Act 2012.
The said individuals have been charged with the abuse of office Contrary to section 46 as read with section 48(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economics crimes act No. 3 of 2003.
The four accused persons pleaded not guilty over the allegations of abuse of office in Nyamira Law Court before Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochien’g.
Peter Omwansa and Beatrice Siribah were charged on particulars on diverse dates between June and November, 2016 within Nyamira county being the executive Member in the department of Gender Youth ,sports, Culture and social services in Nyamira county government used his office to improperly confer a benefit to 56 staff by appointing them as officers without authority.
While Geoffrey Ogeto was charged on the diverse dates between June and November in 2016 when he served as acting chief Executive officer in the youth and gender office he irregularly employed 43 staff without following proper procedure.
Chadrick Sangara was charged with making false documents with an intent to defraud he made a document namely Bachelor of law certificate purporting to be issued by the university of Nairobi and used it to serve as a secretary of Nyamira county service board.
Sangara also on an unknown date with the intent to defraud and without lawful authority or excuse made a certain document namely Bachelor of laws certificate purporting it to be genuine certificate issued by university of Nairobi.
While five other suspects who face similar charges did not appear before the court, the court directed that they be served with sermons to appear in the same court on 7th march 2025.
Advocates representing the accused persons in their applications pleaded for reasonable bond terms saying some of their clients are still government employees and are not flight risk.
“Depending on the weight of this matter we ask the court to give the accused persons Ksh 1Million,”Said Vane Mochama state counsel.
The case will be mentioned on 7th, March , 2025.
