Mayor William Sunday A Senior Inspector For Research And Training

  1. Who are you?

I’m Mayor William Sunday also known as Tr. Sunday Mayor. I hold M.A. Ed and work for ministry of Education as senior inspector for research and training.

  1. Where are you from?

I’m a south Sudanese. I come from Aluakluak in Yirol, lakes state.

  1. What your book category?

Would describe my book category as fiction.  I write historical fiction.

  1. Why did you write?

Call myself an observer of social happenings and that’s what informs my writing.

  1. What inspired you?

⁠I read a lot and that comes from my literature lesson when I was in school in Kenya.  The reading of set books for my KCSE pushed me to go beyond just reading them and I became interested in writing.

  1. Who is your illustrator?

I don’t have specific one. my two books have different illustrators.

  1. Do you have fans?

I do people have who love my writing, if they are the ones u refer to as fans.

  1. How are sales?

Not bad. The country is battling hunger, it is understandable to choose food over a book. Survival first then knowledge or entertainment later.

  1. What are your future plans?

Write more fictions, but also branching into academic writing. I’m educationist and I’m very passionate about improving our education in the little way I can.

  1. How is the book industry?

It needs a lot of work and investment. We need to write about this country or else the coming generations will have absolutely no idea where they are born into. A lot of young people prefer TikTok videos than reading.  But there is hope.

  1. Any awards yet?

Not yet.  Perhaps it’s because I’m not in it for money. I have not invested in advertising or promotions of my books yet.

  1. Who is your role model?

My role model is Ngugi wa Thiongo, John Kiriamiti in that order.

  1. ⁠When did you begin writing?

I started writing in 2010, unfortunately the manuscript is still siting somewhere in my email because I forgot the password first then the entire email. It was about my uncle who died in 2008, assassinated in Nairobi.

  1. Where did you publish?

Two different local printing companies: Ganesh and Digi printers.

  1. What can you say to upcoming author?

They need to do a lot of work.  IA is tempting and people are not reading stories. If they are writing for money, then they should be prepared for disappointment.
