Jamhuri Week 2025 to Spotlight Tourism as Kenya Celebrates 62 Years of Independence
Kenya will mark its 62nd Jamhuri Day with a renewed national focus on tourism, as the government announces that Jamhuri Week 2025 will fully centre on celebrating the country’s transformation through Tourism, Wildlife, and the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano said this year’s celebrations will honour the industry’s role in shaping Kenya’s identity, economy and global visibility. “It is with great honour that we welcome you all to our Jamhuri Week 2025 celebrating Kenya’s transformation through Tourism, Wildlife & Meetings, Incentives Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE),” Miano said in her statement announcing the weeklong festivities.
She added that the celebrations are designed to immerse Kenyans and international visitors in the diversity and beauty of Kenya’s attractions. “It will be a great week to explore, experience and celebrate our nation’s beauty, innovation and cultural pride,” she noted, underscoring the government’s push to strengthen both domestic and international tourism.
This year’s Jamhuri Week will feature destination showcases, cultural exhibitions, wildlife conservation forums and nationwide tourism activities aimed at boosting local travel. The CS emphasized that the campaign invites citizens to rediscover their country, reaffirming the message: “Tembea Kenya.”
A central feature of the celebration will be the expanded Tourism & MICE Expo, which will bring together key players from the hospitality sector, conservation bodies, county tourism boards, and international delegates to explore investment opportunities. Officials say the growing MICE sector continues to elevate Kenya as a preferred hub for global conferences, generating employment and opening new avenues for economic growth.
The celebrations also align with Kenya’s broader strategy to position tourism as a pillar of national development. By dedicating Jamhuri Week to the sector, the government aims to highlight not only Kenya’s natural beauty but also its innovative tourism offerings—from sustainable travel initiatives to modern conference infrastructure.
As Kenya reflects on 62 years of independence, Jamhuri Week 2025 will serve as both a celebration and a call to action: to appreciate, protect, and promote the country’s unique heritage.
