National examinations are around the corner, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) Parents should support their kids especially at the mental level.
Many have there been instances of children committing suicide due to their grades referred to have been poor from their parent’s view point. Such trauma has led to other children opting to bolt from home to a safe haven where they believe to have been no discrimination by educational levels; the streets.
Such cases cause creation of a gap between parents and their children. The setting of must meet high standards of grades accompanied by clear repercussions on the event they are not met creates a lot of pressure to candidates.
Some may worse still choose it wise to engage in malicious activities such as examination irregularities to meet the need of must pass, not that they are not capable of making it through clean, but the pressure mounted on their backs leaves them no room for risks. Parents and guardians ought to consider not all children have the same IQ, if it’s up to grading and ranking, every candidate attaining the first position is highly unrealistic.
The sooner guardians realize every child has their own capabilities and abilities alike, the easier it will be to shape the future of that child. The era of candidates taking their own lives due to exam failure should be stopped. Examinations isn’t the end of life, life itself offers a wider examination scope.
Failing paper examinations should not guarantee one’s mind of a state of dooms day arrival marking the end of your struggles unrealistically by death. Parents and guardians alike should support their children and give them a shoulder to lean on in occurrence of negative results.
We should embrace our children and make them feel loved throughout their struggles. Support should be reflected by paying their fees and also financial support in relation to emotional attachment too. Our children are the future and should be protected with equal measure. Division by educational levels and grades shouldn’t be practice as child trauma is the worst disease to heal from a child. Stand up for our children and keep them safe from trauma.
