Dozens of politicians seeking various seats in the coming General Election yesterday joined the Farmers Party from other political parties.
The aspirants were received by the party Leader who is former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera.
Among those who joined the party are aspirants for Women Rep, Senator, Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly positions.
While receiving them, Nyakera said, “I you of free and fair nominations that the larger parties are unable to guarantee or safeguard”.
At the same time, Nyakera who is seeking to be the third governor of Murang’a County unveiled his running mate, Catherine Wairimu Mugo, who until yesterday was a leading Women Representative Contestant under the UDA Party.
Nyakera noted that Wairimu who is a lawyer by profession will bring in new and exciting dynamics in the party.
She becomes the first woman to ever be appointed as a Deputy Governor contestant in Murang’a, ushering us into a period where we appreciate and recognize the importance of women in political leadership.
By coincidence, she was unveiled during the day marking International Women’s day.
Nyakera observed that women are powerful agents of change, let’s embrace them and mainstream them in political leadership.
