Opposition leaders led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday intensified pressure on the government over the delayed arrest of suspects linked to the killing of Reverend Julius Ndumia, describing the murder as a serious threat to the church and national security. Speaking during the burial service of the late cleric in Tetu Constituency, Nyeri County, Gachagua and other leaders who included DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa accused security agencies of negligence and questioned the government’s silence regarding the investigation.
Gachagua, The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader warned that churches were increasingly becoming unsafe and urged President William Ruto to publicly assure ministers and worshippers of their security.
He further criticized the government for allegedly abandoning the church despite its longstanding support to political leaders. Gachagua also called for a major security overhaul in Nakuru County, citing rising incidents of violence and insecurity in the region.
Wamalwa called for swift justice, emphasizing that peace and security are critical for Africa’s development. Several leaders attending the burial echoed the sentiments, demanding enhanced protection for clergy and speedy prosecution of those responsible for Reverend Ndumia’s killing.
Dozens of former, current and aspiring leaders led by Nyeri Senatorial aspirant on Jubilee party ticket Nick Mararo also supported the call for speedy investigation.
